The Tile

All of the tessellations and patterns on this blog are generated from a single square tile. The tile is based on a 3 x 3 grid, more commonly known among quilters as a 9-patch block.

Five lines are drawn through the tile, beginning and ending at equal intervals along the sides of the tile.

Because the lines occur at equal intervals, no matter how the tile is rotated or mirrored, the lines will always connect with lines in adjacent tiles.
